Questions, answered plainly

If yours is not here, email hello@n1099.com and it probably will be next week.

The basics

Is n1099 really free?
Yes. Clients, aircraft, trips, rate cards, invoices, PDF, email delivery, reminders, A/R, exports and the owner approval link are free for pilots, with no card and no trial clock. Free for pilots. No card, no trial. Optional paid modules for operators may come later; the Terms explain how we give notice if plans change.
Who is n1099 for?
Independent contract pilots who bill more than one owner, operator or flight department: jet and turboprop PIC and SIC contractors first, but anyone who invoices for flying can use it. The owner side is for the people who receive those invoices.
Why the name?
An N-number is how an aircraft is identified. A 1099 is how a contractor is paid. If you have both in your life, this is for you.
Is this a staffing marketplace?
No. There is no directory, no profiles to browse and no matching. Nobody can find you or your clients through n1099. There is no matching today. Any feature that shows your profile to operators is off by default and requires your explicit opt-in.
I only fly a few contract trips a year. Is this overkill?
No. Two invoices a month is the median, not the minimum. One rate card, one client, and each trip is a minute of typing in the hotel. There is no monthly fee to justify, because there is no fee.
Do I need to install anything?
No. n1099 is a web app that works in any modern browser. On a phone, you can add it to your home screen and it behaves like a native app with its own icon.

Invoicing and getting paid

Does the owner need an account to approve or pay?
No. Owners get a signed link that opens the invoice, lets them download the PDF, approve or dispute it, and mark it paid. They can create a free owner account later if they want a roster and consolidated invoices.
I already use QuickBooks or Wave. Why switch?
Keep them for the books. n1099 is the trip-to-invoice layer they do not have: rate cards per owner and aircraft, travel days, per diem, receipts on the trip, and an owner approval link. Export CSV into your bookkeeping whenever you like. If QuickBooks already gets you from trip to sent invoice in a minute from your phone, you do not need us.
My owners will not click links.
They already click links to pay FBO bills and sign charter agreements. The link opens a plain page with the invoice and a PDF download, no login and no app. If an owner still prefers email, attach the same PDF and record the payment yourself when it lands.
Does n1099 take a cut of payments?
No. We do not hold or move your money. You record payments as they arrive by ACH, check or whatever the owner uses, and n1099 keeps the ledger straight.
What does an invoice include?
Your details, the client, the aircraft and route, the dates, every billable line (day rates, half days, travel days, standby, per diem, overnight allowances, hourly if that is your deal), reimbursable expenses with receipts, subtotals, balance due, your payment instructions and your terms. It is numbered, versioned and available as a PDF.
How do reminders work?
You choose the schedule (for example 3 days before due, on the due date, and 7 days after) and the tone. n1099 sends them as you via n1099, with replies going to your email and a link to the invoice. Every send is logged so you can see exactly what the owner received and when. You can pause or stop reminders per client or per invoice.
What if an owner disputes a line?
They can dispute it with a note from the invoice link. You see the reason, fix the invoice (a new revision is created, the old one is kept) and resend. The conversation is attached to the invoice, not lost in a text thread.
Can I bill a client outside the US, or in another currency?
Yes. USD is the default. Set a currency on any client (EUR, GBP, CAD, CHF, AED and others) and every invoice and rate card for that client uses it. Addresses outside the US print with the country. Receivables are shown per currency, never added across them.

Privacy and ownership

Can owners see my other clients or rates?
Never. An owner sees exactly the invoices you sent them and the trips you shared with them. Your other clients, rate cards, income and history are not visible to anyone but you.
Who owns my data?
You do. We store it to run the service for you. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it to build a directory.
Can I get my data out?
Any time. CSV of trips, invoices and payments, PDFs of every invoice, and a one-click account deletion. No subscription required for any of it.
What happens if n1099 shuts down?
You would get notice and a window to export everything. Exports are plain CSV and PDF that any accountant or spreadsheet can read, so you are never locked in.

Taxes and the fine print

Does it do my taxes or file 1099s?
No. n1099 gives you a clean, exportable record of what you billed and what you collected per client per year, which is what your CPA actually wants. It does not file forms or give tax advice.
Does n1099 verify that a pilot is current or insured?
No. n1099 never represents that a pilot is current, type-rated, insured or available. Owners and pilots handle qualifications the way they do today.
Who is behind this?
A small team that has chased invoices and wanted something better than a spreadsheet and a prayer. Say hello at hello@n1099.com.

Send your next invoice from the FBO lot.

Free for pilots. No card. Owners approve from a link. No account needed.
